Mad Science Mother-Daughter Date
Our July mother-daughter date this year was at Little Beakers, a science lab for kids. I made a reservation for their earliest slot (noon), and booked a 2.5 hour open lab. The place was well stocked, clean, and had 2-3 staff members on hand. The activities are meant to be adult-supervised so the price of admission for a kid includes 1-2 adults! We had so much fun!!
L has always loved science and especially experiments, but I’m not a fan of the prep and mess. This was a perfect activity for us to do together where all the procedures and materials were laid out, we got to do the fun part, and then we could move on to another activity and the staff cleaned up after us! L chose from a list full of experiments and I assisted her. They had slime activities, experiments about density and reactions, DNA extraction, making a potato battery, bubbles, light diffraction, and permanent images on special paper from the sun.
L and I laughed a lot and learned some, too! It was so hot afterwards (112 degrees according to the car!) that we walked over to the FroYo place on the corner and shared a mango-pineapple-strawberry yogurt with all the fresh fruit toppings. It was a wonderful treat at the end of our day.
