Tie-Breaker Gender Reveal

We have a boy and a girl, so what happens when Baby #3 comes along and you’re asked if you should find out the gender? One of my dearest friends left it for a surprise up until the baby showed up, and told me that although she went back and forth several times on the decision, in the end it was so fun to not know until the moment of!

I went in to transfer to my new doctor’s office, and they ended up needing to give me an ultrasound to give the results to the high risk doctor I’d be working with. The ultrasound tech was so kind to me, and offered to quickly reveal the gender since she’d have to make me uncomfortable first with the other procedure. What to do… I really wanted to know! I promised that I would keep it a secret from my husband.

It’s a BOY!

The way this pregnancy was going, we initially thought it was a boy (probably because we hoped it was a boy), but as things progressed we decided it must be a girl because it was turning out a lot like when I was pregnant with our girl. I let the results sink in, and wanted so badly to share the news with our little family the moment I held the ultrasound photos in my hand and reflected on the news. I had accepted and was happy with the idea of another girl. We had a name already picked out for a girl. I had taken out all the girl clothes, accepted more girl clothes from generous relatives. I was so excited about all the bows, dresses, bloomers, and Lily sharing a room with the new baby. I had even planned on when I’d buy the watercolor floral fabric for the crib sheets I would make! I couldn’t keep my promise to keep it a secret for weeks from my husband, so I decided to find a fun way to tell him and the kids.

I called up a wonderful local bakery in Provo called The Mighty Baker for ideas on a small and simple treat to reveal the news. They suggested we try a new thing—a chocolate covered eclair filled with colored Italian buttercream icing! I told them the kids would be involved, too, so they covered it with colorful sprinkles, too! We taped my ultrasound photos with the proof on the inside of the box, and when Daddy got home it all came together…

Everyone was as surprised as I was! I guess Big Sister had her heart set on experiencing a little sister, and was initially broken hearted to find that she would have a brother instead. Now the race to find the right name ensues. I’m so glad I didn’t buy a bunk bed prematurely!
