To Great-Grandmother’s House We Go
It’s the end of an era. Jeremy’s grandparents sold their home and are moving to a retirement community. A place without stairs, where meals are provided, and most of their possessions are gone so they can downsize.
This home was built with his grandfather’s own hands. The basement bedrooms all done in a log cabin style. His grandfather would sand and re-stain the decking. I remember meeting his grandparents here in their home and tasting my first mashed potatoes made with sour cream and I thought I was in heaven.
I always got the best sleep of my life since the bedrooms could get pitch black and you’d never know if it was daylight.

They’ve left us some of their furnishings that would have passed to Jeremy’s father. A beautiful Redwood tree trunk coffee table. Cushioned Victorian wing chairs in a his-and-hers set.
It’s definitely hard to say goodbye to such a beautiful place always associated with loving people. But the upkeep is too much for them now, and it’s time for a new chapter for them.
I’m glad our kids got to play in the yard and enjoy the stream one last time.
Love, Kat
