How to Rock Summer Break: Best Free Utah Activities with Kids – Part 1

Dinosaurs, water guns, and pioneers… oh my! Summer break opened with a big trip, and since then we’ve had daily adventures with the kids—far too much fun for one post, haha! (But seriously, I literally can’t add any more text or photos.) Putting both classic favorites and new adventures on the Summer Bucket List gives us something to look forward to every day. We have breaks from our vacation, too, because naps and laundry keep the fun going… My kids love water, animals, reading, and being active so those will show up this summer! My preferred activities are low cost (free or inexpensive), not too crowded (many free events attract lots of people but it stresses me out not being able to find my kids right away or waiting at free events), and a few eclectic or hidden gems hopefully!

Thunder Junction Park, St. George, Utah

We were road tripping from California on Baby W’s birthday and the kids needed a break, so we celebrated in St. George with some In N’ Out at the Dinosaur Park! Last time we visited in winter, so this is the first time we’ve been here when the splash pad was on and had swimsuits ready to go. We played in the Dino-filled waterfalls and at the all-abilities playground until closing!

Springville Splash Pad

This is our weekly summer hangout (see this post from when we first moved)! Baby W started taking other kids’ toy squirt guns, so we had to get him some of his own. And that’s how water guns became the thing to do! The kids take breaks for snacks before another round.

Springville Library

Our library has wonderful summer events going on weekly for kids! It usually includes a themed story time, activity, puppets or songs, crafts, and games! Below was a Train theme, so after story time the kids made conductor hats, traffic light treats, and did an obstacle course pretending they were trains.

Pioneer Village, Provo, Utah

We’ve visited before on Pioneer Day when Provo is flooded with people, and it was really nice to come back with our friends when it was less crowded! We love the pioneers and learning about what their houses and schools looked like, how they traveled by covered wagon, trying out their tools with a blacksmith, seeing how they made oxen shoes and washed clothes, and visiting the General Store. It was super fun dressing the kids in pioneer clothing for the tour. The kids each got a traditionally made lollipop before we left, and W was in heaven because it was giant!
