July 4th Part 1: Slate Canyon Hike

We started this tradition of hiking with our best friends during the pandemic when we lived with them. From the viewpoints at the top of Slate Canyon, we can see the entire valley and especially the hot air balloons as they launch for the Freedom Festival on Independence Day. We bring our kids and our dogs, and one of us takes a hiking pack so that we can eat breakfast sandwiches from McDonald’s once we reach the top. The trail is super close to their home, and filled with beautiful shaded views as long as you start hiking early enough. I loved that this year I got to hike with my brother and niece, too.
