Spring Break at the Zoo

We spent the morning at the Hogle Zoo for the first time since the pandemic! The kids received binoculars, a year’s pass to the zoo, and “zoo passports” as part of their Easter gifts. Their zoo passports included 38 labeled illustrations of different animals they’d be able to find and check off.

The Great Apes building interior was closed to the public, so we enjoyed the outdoor areas and thankfully got a glimpse of a sleeping gorilla. L’s favorite stop is always to see her elephants and maybe catch a demonstration of them creating art.

There is a new exhibit in the African area with meerkats and warthogs! The meerkats were so active and friendly, unafraid of the people peering at them. We had fun watching them because they were always running around doing something.

We continued our tradition of taking a photo with the otter statue. Our last stop during lunch was to the new rope bridges that the kids like to run across.

Since the zoo is kind of far for us, I’m glad we made the drive to have this family time during break. I’m glad there were so many amazing animals we got to see! I hope we get to use those zoo passes many more times this year.

Love, Kat
