Memorial Weekend Hike
We kind of went back and forth about what we should do for Memorial Day, but I kept pushing for a family hike. Baby Henry turned 9 months (6 months corrected) today! It felt like time to see how he does outdoors without the stroller.
Jer and I enjoyed cooking in the kitchen together and made omelettes for breakfast (everyone was a fan). Then we gathered the family and went on our first actual hike with Baby Henry, just up the canyon on our favorite short trail.

The city has improved the trail since we last hiked here! There are fancy engraved trash cans, added benches, professional signage… I was impressed. Some Mild Kid-Friendly loops were added near our favorite bridge, so we tried those out. The steeper parts of our uphill climb got evened out. I was able to keep up with the rest of the family not too far behind with a walking stick.

I absolutely loved being amongst the trees, stream, cicadas, and the gorgeous views of our mountains. Outside with my people (and pup). Speaking of our pup, she acted like she hasn’t been hiking in years and was freaking out excited; Jer had a hard time walking her so he let her off leash since no one was around and she calmed down from just being perfectly contented. That’s honestly how I felt inside, too. I’ve really missed being out in our canyon breathing fresh air and feeling sunshine like good days in normal life before. That feeling that life is slowly normalizing, that we are returning to our old joys is such a comfort to me.

I got to test out wearing Baby in the carrier with the little sun protector and seeing how well it ventilates—not much, it turns out. We were soaked from sweating on each other! It wasn’t even the hot part of summer yet. We’re looking into getting a more comfortable hiking baby carrier.
I was rewarded with air conditioning, sitting in front of a fan while feeding Baby, and then an hour long nap!

Can’t wait to adventure again soon!!
