Quiet Book Reveal

Fair warning: if you decide to start a quiet book for your kid, you might go overboard really quick—resulting in giving up a few times, and taking 2 years to put it together while said kid plays with the individual unfinished pages. And then you realize that your kid has outgrown that page, so maybe your newest kid will be able to reap the benefits of your labors. Maybe you should have made things more gender-neutral, haha!

The Quiet Book Details

Pages: 12″x18″ stiff felt. Single-sided so pages can be shared, switched to another quiet book when one child has outgrown it, and for easy travel.
Backing: scrap fabric I had from a twin sheet.
Binding: 3 grommets/eyelets per page with holes the same distance as a normal 3-ring binder so we have the option of putting it in a binder.

Now on to the pages!

Princess Aurora Tie the Bow Page

I saw an adorable bow tying page with a dress, and decided to do Sleeping Beauty’s pink dress since Lily was obsessed with it.

Button the Flowers Temple Page

Lily picked out the buttons, she loves them! All the flowers can go inside the grassy hill pocket. I printed out a temple clip art image on card stock, and used the outline as a template for the felt. The angel is made from sparkly gold felt!

Braid the Zebra Hair Page

We found this awesome zebra print felt, and had to make a zebra! Its mane is rocking and had to have a matching color. My only regret is that there aren’t TWO strands so she can try pigtails or more complex braiding.

Choo-choo Train Page

I tried out a template, and it turned out super cute! This was the page where I decided I needed clear thread because switching between colors was ridiculous. I have yet to make the animal finger puppets that go along with this.

Dress the Doll Page

I love that this doll can go on any of the pages. She fits inside the train, she goes on the hill with the flowers, she can ride the zebra or pet it. I had a face planned, but haven’t gotten to it yet. The main thing I wanted was for her to look like Lily. I created a vector template for her body, face, and clothing options so they all fit on her perfectly.

Heart-shaped beads as knobs really say Lily. The dresser is a pocket to hold her doll clothes. I love that I can always make more! I just sewed scrap fabric to felt so it would stick to the felt doll.

Counting Numbers Page

I needed a page that went up to ten. I hoped it would help with number recognition, and that the fun items to feel and touch would be great for even toddler hands. I tried to keep it colorful and had both boyish items (7 beads making a truck) and girlish items (9 flowers).

I have plans for many more pages! Almost done with a a Solar System page, Other plans are a cover with a name so that it doesn’t get lost, and definitely some gospel-related pages for church. It’s so nice that these books can grow as the kids grow, and I can always add more details when I make the time.
