Dresses and Faces

May 5, 2013

Did I tell you that Lily seems to be a born princess and gets super excited when we tell her it’s time to pick her dress for church? The way she walks and talks when she’s in a dress is a little different than when she’s in normal clothes, and I know we never taught her any of that and we never showed her any videos or anything, so I have no idea how she knows! It’s just so cute.

I’m pretty sure Lily has her Dad’s sense of humor, as she’s taken to randomly making funny faces at me. The first time it happened, I was changing her diaper and I looked up from wiping her, and her eyebrows were high up and her eyes were big like she was trying to make a “surprise!” face. I couldn’t stop laughing, especially since the more I laughed the more she did it! I’ve tried time and again to get her Dad to come over and see it, and they disappear in front of a camera, so she saves them just for me. Then her Dad taught her how to squint her eyes and make a mischievous little face, so she likes to catch me off-guard with that one, too—usually when I’m taking her out of her high chair and she’s got a bunch of food on her face for theatrical effect. I knew I would love my kids, but I don’t think I knew you could love them this much… I look forward to our bedtime routine when I get to sing her favorite songs and she smiles at me and I get to hear her little voice tell me “Night night” and offer me a kiss. She won’t be this little for long, and really sometimes I just don’t want it to end.
