Dripping Rock and Springville

We are packing in all the summer action with only a few weeks left of break.

On the way to our family adventure, Jer took the long way to get us some special breakfast burritos which he bases his own on. They were delicious and the perfect fuel for our morning hike.

We went to Dripping Rock and up to the Reservoir in Spanish Fork. It’s been a few years since our last visit as a family. Perhaps the many colorful painted rocks along a small rock wall are a new addition? They were so fun to look through along our nature walk.

What a good workout up the steep hills! I pushed Baby Henry in the stroller instead of getting sweaty while baby-wearing. We enjoyed views of the golf course, windmills, and stately mansions with 4 stories in winding yards while we crossed paths with several bikers.

The water at Dripping Rock was cold and so refreshing on the way back! Baby Henry got to dip his toes in, and feel the water on his hands. He nearly jumped in by himself if we didn’t have a firm hold on him! After playing in the water we came home ready for showers and a rest.

A Spontaneous Outing

I made Jer (my introvert) take the rest of the day to get some much deserved time for himself. He went to the movies, which is one of his favorite ways to recharge. Even when we were single and friends, he regularly went to the movies by himself!

While Dad was out, I decided to do a special outing with the kids. I wanted uncrowded quiet spaces for us to get out of the heat, so I took them to our old stomping grounds in Springville. We visited our favorite Library, reading and exploring until Baby Henry couldn’t stay quiet anymore haha.

Then we went across the street to the farmer’s market to check the little booths and food trucks. Most of the vendors were still setting up, and it was over 110F degrees so we didn’t stay long. W convinced me to buy the kids some European licorice, and I grabbed farm fresh basil.

My favorite booths sold flowers, plants, and books, especially the “Blind Date with a Book”. An adorable pink truck selling romance books called them “Literary Love Match”. Before heading home we stopped to grab our favorite Pineapple Dole Whips. L said it was the best day!

I had fully expected to come home and pop a frozen deep dish pizza in the oven for dinner while I got Henry’s feed and bedtime routine done. Jer surprised me by coming home early right after his movie and making us dinner! He taught our son F how to make my favorite sausage spaghetti.

Jer and I had a nice long walk together afterwards, and he told me about the movie. I could see that old spark he gets when he’s had a chance to relax doing something he is passionate about—like when he comes back from camping, or in this case immersing himself in a movie adaptation of a book he read and loved. We relished talking with each other immensely, laughing and holding hands. Both of us didn’t want our mini-date to end. What a big and satisfying day for us all!

Love, Kat
