Let’s Play Kitchen!

Play Kitchen for Christmas

The kids were so good that they got the play kitchen of their dreams for Christmas. Santa even left a note explaining that his elf told him we’d be traveling for the holidays, so he delivered it to our house but also paid us a visit where we were. That Santa, so thoughtful! He totally knew we had a tiny car packed to the brim already and wouldn’t be able to haul an assembled play kitchen home.

The KidKraft Ultimate Corner Play Kitchen with Lights and Sounds

This play kitchen is AMAZING, our kids love it! It has so many realistic and interactive features to make play time super fun and good quality so hopefully it will last for years.

  • Knobs at the stove that click and turn.
  • An ice maker that makes sounds.
  • Burners on the stove that light up and make noise.
  • Faucet handles that turn.
  • Refrigerator, oven, microwave, cupboards, and even a washer for lots of storage and imaginative play.
  • Beautiful finishes that look like a real gourmet kitchen (flecked counters, espresso and silver “stainless steel”).
  • Let’s not forget the play phone which we had to buy my son another phone so he would stop stealing this one to sleep at night with.
  • Adorable details like that window with curtains that my daughter loves.
  • It fits in the corner of the room and can maneuver out the door if we need to move it.
  • Big enough that multiple children can play, so perfect for siblings and for when their friends or cousins come over.

Play Food

What I quickly realized after they played with it nonstop for days was that we need more play food! Eventually I’d like to get a (pricey) set of toddler-friendly play food made by Learning Resources that’s made of rubbery plastic so that it doesn’t get destroyed if it’s crushed or stepped on. Right now the kids want play food they can chop! I’ve ordered a wooden food cutting set from Melissa and Doug.

Felt Play Sushi

In the mean time, I got to work and made some play sushi out of felt—because why not! L said that even though she doesn’t eat sushi in real life she pretend eats it all the time! We lent a pair of chopsticks to her dish collection so she could start serving orders. I also made some bow tie pasta out of felt.

We’ve been stuffing ourselves silly on the kids’ play creations, and cleaning up after my two-year old who likes to dump everything out and walk away haha. I remember that playing kitchen and restaurant was one of my favorite parts of childhood, and we had nothing as fancy as this so I’m totally geeking out. Who’s ready for another round of nigiri… and dessert!
