The Butterfly Room
Have you ever met a butterfly up close? Not only are they beautiful, they are also such friendly, enchanting creatures. We headed to the Aquarium for the new exhibit that allows you to visit 5 different kinds of butterflies in a special enclosed area of the “South America” section. We had so much fun seeing if we could spot them, learning about butterfly life cycles, seeing what they eat, and even interacting with them!

My mom always told us that a butterfly landing on you or even fluttering by you means it brings you good luck! Apparently L has all the luck in the world because this one stayed in her hair for almost the whole time—she said it tickled! The Butterly Exhibit was the first thing we did when we arrived in the morning, and I’m glad we did because the line was long. The exhibit has been so popular —way more than the sloth opening—that it will likely be a permanent addition to the aquarium. The attendant said that they bring in hundreds of new butterflies every day because their life cycles are so short.

L really wanted to bring her new baby boy doll who she has named Jessie to see the aquarium. I told her no, that we need to leave him at home because we don’t want him to get lost or forgotten when we take him places. Then her Daddy suggested that she just use her baby carrier. You should have seen the sunshine and sparkles that radiated from her face as she got to work right away packing a diaper bag and getting her baby carrier ready for their trip. We did get a few comments from strangers about how it was the cutest thing they ever saw.

It was the first time we checked out just the rainforest section. We caught a rare moment where there was no line at the rainforest bridge that you walk across, so Jer and the kids got to do that. We finally got the see the electric eel swim! And although we spotted the sloth in the toucan enclosure, all we saw was a furry area in a tree and no face or movement. No wonder the butterfly exhibit has been a bigger hit than the sloth opening! L did spot some sloth tracks in the sandy earth at the bottom of the cage though, which was pretty observant of her because she pointed out they have claws.
The kids finally got to play at Tuki’s Island where the jungle gym and playground area is while I fed the baby in a secluded kid-free area. They were sad to leave of course, but we had a great time and hope to be back again soon!
