Walker is One Year Old!

Our baby is officially a year now! This past month he has loved sleeping with just his diaper on. He’s been pushing his walker, riding the paddle board at the pool with Daddy, crawling around at the splash pad, and eating all his food with his fingers—and lots of it. His newest thing is shouting—like, really loud—at the most awkward times like during a very spiritual respectful moment in church. He is all about being included in the sibling activities, and loves playing catch and throwing balls! It’s the cutest thing ever when he plays catch with Daddy.

And he’s so smart! He figured out how to open the shoe cabinet by undoing the makeshift lock. He learns from his experiences, and respects boundaries and the law of gravity. Though a fence between him and the dishwasher couldn’t hold him, being placed on the couch where he doesn’t want to fall off will. This is his little face when he’s trying to make me laugh, I love him so much!

Celebrating Turning One

To celebrate we took a family trip and had dinner at Popeye’s for some delicious fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and buttery biscuits. When we came home we showed the birthday boy his new ride- a Little Tikes Cozy Coupe to match his brother’s truck. He loved riding around being pushed all over the path, and then taking a break in the shade to have some Creamies.

Major Changes

He had his one year checkup and we came home with three shots and a list of major transitions to work on. First, the doctor said it’s time to think about weaning him from breastfeeding, or at least supplementing with Whole Milk so he gets the calories he needs.

Second, getting him to sleep in his own bed. We’ve been working on naps, feeding him enough so that he only needs one breastfeeding session at night, establishing a bedtime routine on time, and being vigilant about trying to help him self-calm. It’s really helped that I can lay on the floor next to his crib and hold his hand so he’s not scared or feeling abandoned. So much change for him and Mommy at one time! We’re so grateful for his sweet and loving personality, and all the fun he brings to our family. We love you, Walker!
