If I Had a Million Dollars: Pay tithing, eat Thai that night, buy a bunch of book & art supplies as well as a little art studio, then save the rest for college
What I Am Looking Forward to This Year: Sophomore year and making new friends. Fresh start!
I Am Thankful For: Jesus, Henry, Mom & Dad, Delarosa family is close, school, friends, being brave & stepping out of my comfort zone, and the temple.
Just the Way You Are
We’re so proud of and thankful for our Silly Lilly! She is equal parts refined and playful, so thoughtful (“polite” is one of the most frequent descriptions I get of her haha!) and eloquent (probably from all that reading), yet never afraid to dance, sing, and geek out over her various books and dragons. I love that when she chooses to express herself through joy, she doesn’t let what her peers think hold her back. If there is something she sets her heart on, she works quietly and diligently to get there. For example, she decided on her own to learn how to meet people and make friends because it was difficult for her. I love that she is so brave and determined that way!
Lily is a bridge between the kids who might be outcasts and the kids who might be popular, uniting and embracing them all with her caring nature and laughter. She is so expressive, especially through creative outlets like music, movement, and visual arts, and she has a style all her own. I love that she has developed an inner strength that allows her to stand up for her own opinions and will while still remaining open to so much. She is a natural leader and a dependable voice of reason and kindness.
She’s starting high school with all new people in a couple of weeks 🫠 . Jer took her to check out her classes, and in true go-getter fashion, she ended up being recruited to Student Council as an appointed Artist. It will be a great way for her to get to know people before school even begins and to plan for and be part of all the activities—and she gets a special jacket, too!
Instead of just sitting on it and waiting, she’s already been practicing drawing all her “Skyhawks,” the made-up animal mascot. Being involved is part of her character now: she gives her best to all her endeavors and creations, and especially to her family. We are seriously the luckiest parents!
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
We had a small party at a karaoke place with pizza, drinks, cake, singing, and dancing. 2 hours of karaoke was the perfect amount for our group. Lily led the way in making her friends laugh and feel comfortable singing together rather than needing to perform.
“I Want It That Way”, “What Makes You Beautiful”, “California Girls”, “Pink Pony Club”, K-pop Demon Hunters, and Disney songs were the biggest hits for these girls. Us Moms taught them about Lizzie McGuire’s “What Dreams Are Made Of” and songs from the 90s animated film Anastasia!
Victoria fresh off directing her Girls Camp led us to some dance moves from One Direction. It turns out teenage girls don’t eat that much even after much partying, and the 2 boxes of pizza and 2 boxes of breadsticks provided in my party package was more than enough haha. My Mom, a seasoned party hostess, made sure we thought of everything. L chose her cake at the grocery store on the way to the party. Pretty sure this is the first time I’ve done a party package anywhere ever, and it turned out fun and simple!
I’m so grateful that my Mom and sister and best girls could be there to celebrate sweet Lily.
