Coloring Mother-Daughter Date

This coloring book date is about 7 months after it was originally scheduled from our 2025 Mother-Daughter Experiences (woops). It just goes to show that it’s never too late to make an effort to spend time with your child. My lovely Artist daughter was ready with a bunch of coloring pencils. We chose a page together and got comfortable. Over the hours we spent on it, I found that while L has so much creativity she doesn’t have the patience for these super detailed complicated coloring book pages. We did laugh a lot together, though!

I don’t think that this type of coloring is relaxing for her the way that these books are marketed. She did shading and beautiful colors on ONE flower making it perfect, and got overwhelmed with the fact there was an entire field of hundreds of them filling the page even when I told her we can just make it all the same color. She wanted to do her best on each one, so she got tired and didn’t want to continue. I think if she does a coloring book which is not as intricate or huge, maybe we will finish it—but she was okay with leaving it unfinished for another time. So far it takes years in between picking it back up again.

Trip to Poppy Bookstore

We went to our special bookstore in search of a special gift for her Secret Sister at Girls Camp. Both of us were charmed by all the new details we noticed, such as an outdoor painted rock garden, a tiny Little Free Library box at the front door (!), new bookcases for some gorgeous hardcover classics, a signed display encased in glass of “Tress of the Emerald Sea” (one of my favorite books from Brandon Sanderson) next to her ship getting squeezed by vines, and so many adorable finds like fun bookmarks and puzzles.

I found a beautiful copy of the first book from Chronicles of Narnia, and a collection of short stories based on Taylor Swift songs that I think my Swiftie friend would enjoy. We had so much fun just browsing, but L almost left with a watercolor workbook that was Book themed if it wasn’t super expensive over our budget. It impresses me so much that she can wait for delayed gratification. She rarely ever asks for things, and we try to reward her for her patience. Little does she know she’s getting that special watercolor workbook for her birthday 😉
