Autumnal Glimmers at Sister Time
Do you ever crave one of those unstructured days with no plans so that you can just go off on a relaxed adventure? My sister made the trip out to visit, and we decided to go with the flow. I could have made lunch, but I decided to take her out to a café all my friends have been raving about.
My sister described the place (Wild Thistle) as me “in Restaurant Form” 😆 After visiting there I can see what she means, and it’s my new favorite local food spot. They had me at “we serve breakfast all day.” Now that’s what I’m talking about!!
A little quirky, a lot eclectic, warm and moody all at once, and so many design elements I would have chosen. It felt like a hippie, a witch, and an industrialist moved in together to open a haunted bakery.

Velvet seating paired with vintage frames and lamps, a dainty glass mushroom shaped bud vase mixed with hanging bohemian planters, and prickly Sea Holly with delicate baby’s breath.

We ate my kind of healthy filling food: a big bowl of steak, black beans, turmeric rice, caramelized onions, roasted sweet potatoes which stole the show, fresh avocado slices, and a chimichurri sauce all fancifully topped with microgreens. We shared the biggest size of mango lassi drink they had. Next time I hope to try their breakfast!

I took her to my literal neck of the woods and we enjoyed the rush of color and visual majesty before us. Autumn was showing off! And what a gorgeous woman my sis is, especially in front of all the nature glowing behind her. She was eager to hike around in giant heels haha. Somehow she took one of the best photos of me, despite my being without makeup and completely bloated 😆—that’s what I call a skilled photographer!

Chicken noodle soup (specially served over Jer’s delicious mashed potatoes) nourished our souls before we had to send her off back home for a full shift of work tomorrow.
I love this girl so much. She recently sent me the following pic of us as kids, and it makes me so grateful that we are getting these Glimmers together as grown ups, these flutterings of peace and joy that feel almost surreal and magical. At the hardest times in our relationship I wasn’t sure if we’d ever be close again. But hearts change, time softens, and we are pulled back towards the things of eternity—family, and loving each other.

I love you,
Kat
