Pregnancy Week 25

My appetite is back for the most part! Baby loves Mexican food—eggs and cheese in a tortilla for breakfast, vegetarian tacos that Jer makes with zucchini and corn and chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, ground beef hard shell tacos, piña fajita filled with mushrooms and beef and pork for a family dinner out, nachos topped with leftovers, a penchant for refried beans… I think the variety and flavor is familiar and comforting.

I had a really hard time while Jeremy was out of town, and afterwards I realized that even though I had done what I needed to do to take care of the kids I had become depressed while he was away- so my emotions are still fluctuating. He makes me feel seen and taken care of, helps me with my burdens, and to just not have him around and trying to make myself do things without his support was difficult. I feel especially vulnerable at this point of pregnancy.

Baby wakes me up at night with his strong kicks, and I imagine him telling me things like, “Time to go to the bathroom again, Mom,” or “I’m hungry, feed me!!!!” pretty regularly. Apparently baby can hear us at this stage in development, so he will be listening to a lot of The Offspring or Shakira in the car, me reading The Chronicles of Narnia aloud to the kids for bedtime and Sundays (they love it!), and my tummy wishing for more ice cream but sloshing around with water instead.

I’m still in hardcore Nesting Mode. For weeks I shopped for dressers, and finally bought a vintage set with a matching painted dresser and nightstand since I need more surface area for the humidifier and my day lamp once summer is over. That same day we took the furniture home (thank you to my husband Jer and daughter L for being willing to carry all this for me!), I bought a bunch of baby items from my friend second-hand and then experienced buyer’s remorse. A part of me wants to just be done with shopping, and the other is grappling with reality versus expectation and budgets. I’ve cleaned all the purchases and organized the dresser, so I’m happy and it feels like we are more prepared for his coming every day.

I got a Birthday present for myself: a $600 air duct deep clean! It had never been done before in our home and we’re coming up on 5 years here, so it was time and I can feel a lot better about the upcoming cooling/heating bills and the longevity of our HVAC system. Plus, not as much dust and dirt and grime coming from the vents!

I’ve been slowly clearing out the basement.  It’s a big effort so I can only do a little bit at a time. The latest thing was vacuuming all the spider webs that had formed, and putting together a School / Art Supplies storage so we can paint and do crafts easier.

My friends in the neighborhood surprised me and are planning a Baby Shower! It’s even Brunch which is my favorite!! They had me make a guest list, gather email addresses, and put together a registry. A date is set, and I’m so excited to see so many of these wonderful women that I love and who are so supportive of us with this new baby! I feel very lucky and grateful for all the progress and upliftment I’ve had these past few weeks. Baby is in good hands.

Love,
Kat
