Timpanogos Cave and Hike

I had such a fun day with my daughter L on our Mother-Daughter Date! We were early for everything, and got to explore the Visitors Center and gift shop before hiking our way up to the cave tours entrance. The views and fall colors were spectacular! L was surprised at how tired she was on such a short hike. We took frequent breaks and enjoyed the benches.

Cave Tour

L has had a love for rocks and geology since she was very little, so going on the cave tour was an incredible experience for her! We explored Hansen Cave, Middle Cave, and Timpanogos Cave. Our guide Ranger Omar shared a bit of history and showed us the stalagmites, stalactites, columns, helictites, cave popcorn, and even a “lake”. My favorite was the rare green formations from nickel, the color of which doesn’t usually occur naturally. We had a “lights out” moment in each of the three caves we saw, and it was so cool to feel the natural darkness of this environment. L’s favorite part was “the ice cream shop” because some of the formations looked like caramel drizzle and rocky road, with clear display of the fault line that formed the cave.

It’s been about 10 years since I last came on this hike / cave tour. They’ve really improved the railings, added a Visitors Center and lots of educational activities about preserving the cave and its history, and showing how unique and precious the formations inside are. L and I ended our day with a special lunch out with her first time at Olive Garden. We might have geeked out about our favorite parts!

Love,
Kat
