Harry Potter Escape Room
For our first Mother-Daughter Date this year, we booked a wizard themed escape room! This was our first escape room together, so it took us a while to figure out what to look for or do in the first room. Thankfully our sweet helper took it upon herself to give us a hint! Our walkie talkie had a flashlight on it, and a whiteboard with marker was provided for taking notes or solving problems. We were given 60 minutes to complete all the clues, puzzles, riddles, and tasks across 3 rooms.
I’m sad that no photos, videos, or phones were allowed because I loved all the details and props in each area! A wall of portraits, giant chess board, potions area and restricted section of a library, and a forbidden forest. I appreciated that it wasn’t scary, although there were times when we scared ourselves as we didn’t know what to expect in a creepy dark enchanted forest. We also loved the incorporation of a wand and performing magic spells with correct movement and saying it clearly and loudly in order for the spells to take— like providing light or revealing clues! Everything was so well done, we had the best time running / crawling around finding runes and trying out combinations.
Our worst skill was finding things in hidden places because I was too afraid to break something. I learned I’m very bad at opening locks even with the correct code haha! We wasted half our time in the first room because we couldn’t get the thing to unlock and assumed it was the wrong code. After that though, we got lots of hints to try to make up for lost time lol. L is such a clever girl and with team work we were able to finish with 30 seconds left on the clock!
Here we are with some of the magical artifacts we uncovered including a wand, locket, sword, diary, and chalice. The staff was so kind in taking several photos for us.
The drive itself was an adventure with needing to return to bring back a prop we accidentally stole, then we ran out of gas with just 1 mile short of filling up at the gas station on the way home. L learned first hand why left hand turns are trickier. Google Maps helped us avoid traffic from several crashes. I’m glad we made it home safely! L is already talking about doing more escape rooms.
