Adelynn’s Birthday Dinner
My parents and two of my sisters are in town! We celebrated my sister’s 29th birthday with an Irish dinner (they will just barely miss our St Patrick’s Day party), playing Oregon Trail, taking a walk, and basically family home evening with reading Saints over tea and a blessing for my father.

I made Irish Soda Bread and Jer cooked Irish stew in his Dutch oven. Everyone was stuffed! They left us with Girl Scout cookies and other snacks like papaya, chocolate covered pretzels, and pistachios.
W said this was the best day ever haha. We did laugh a bunch, especially while surviving the calamities on our Oregon trail journey, rescuing each other, and sharing in the misfortunes of lost supplies. My Dad and Mom who have never played board games with us before said it was a lot of fun!

This was my family’s first time having angel food cake, with the strawberries and whipped cream after slicing. Jer said he could tell I cooked it perfectly from how easily it was to slice. The Birthday Girl excitedly described it as a soft squishy toasted marshmallow hahaha!

My sister had to rehome their bearded dragon when they moved here, so she and her husband were eager to see our lizard. The kids were thrilled to be able to show my family their bearded dragon, Lego creations, and factoids from their books. I found the boys cuddling nonstop with Grandma and Grandpa. My parents had arrived with some very thoughtful gifts for us including a Hogwarts shirt, furry duck boots for winter, and a journaling kit that L got so excited for; Ninja Turtle toys for the boys; and a book with family tradition ideas for me.
I took Birthday Girl and the dog to the reservoir where we ran up a muddy walk and laughed about our husbands leading lives with “just walk it off”, personal odes to seafood buffets and applesauce (especially the cinnamon kind), the literal end of Forever 21 (she bought some fashion items that have fulfilled their nonfunctional but pretty purposes), and how far the AI has come since her new phone was able to make a pitch black night look like broad daylight in her photos of the reservoir. She’s been really reveling in her new chapter in Utah, excited about their new apartment and acclimating to the weather.

It got late and sadly they had to go; we miss having them around. I’m so glad they were all able to come over and visit with us! I hope everyone especially Birthday Girl has a wonderful upcoming year.
Happy Birthday, sis, and many more to come!
Love, Kat
