Idaho Summer Vacation – Part 2

This was our last days at the big cabin we stayed at with Jer’s brother Michael and his family. See part 1 of our vacation here. We were sad to leave such a fun place! What a great base for trips to Yellowstone, Island Park, and other local spots. We had a great time grilling, roasting marshmallows, and hanging out in comfort with great views of the Tetons.

Lake

With the heat, the kids really had their heart set on getting into some cold water so we packed some Bagged Lunches with sandwiches and cold drinks, and found a lake nearby (not sure the name). It ended up having Leeches 🤢 Poor Fletcher was bit up all over his foot and legs. It’s amazing how much I’ve used the First Aid Kit this trip- for bug bites, a hole on a foot probably from footwear, and now leeches! A guy swimming in the lake said that it’s easy to swat them off you and that they normally only get the people along the shallows who are on the bottom and don’t move. He must have been right, as L swam the whole time across half the lake with her cousins and didn’t have any leech encounters.

Hotel + Restaurant

We had one day at a hotel to rest and shower before our camping trip. It was the biggest room we’ve ever stayed at! We played at the pool before meeting Michael and his family for dinner together at a Mexican restaurant Jalisco’s with a very festive atmosphere. All the chandeliers were shaped like cacti- I loved it! Nothing like a full belly and a big day to put you to sleep!

Printing Press

We visited the BYU-Idaho campus in Rexburg where Michael and his wife went for college. The rare books and artifacts collection was being moved, but they still let us look at some old text and also a first edition Book of Mormon. The old text was handwritten in ink with some colorful designs for the starting letters and in between columns.

We also got to see a real printing press and the kids got to make and keep a copy that they inked. No trip to college campus is complete without visiting the book store! We chose some candy for our souvenirs.

Jer’s brother and his family rented an RV so that will be fun at the reunion!
