The Smart-Looking One
My friends saw me with my new glasses and said, ‘We know you’re smart, and when you wear glasses it totally makes sense!’
F, car ride home March 13, 2025
It’s not just looks, though. We’re so proud of F for being chosen from his class to be a Cougar Pride Student of the month for demonstrating exceptional Self-Management. Way to go, Fletch!
A new family moved to our street, and since that day their son claimed F to be his Best Friend. F says, “Of course!” All of his friends are his best friends apparently, but this one is special. He likes that they both wear glasses now, and that they both don’t like sweets—in fact, said friend would rather eat broccoli than ice cream (although I’m not sure how I feel about this… hahaha!).
F ripped a hole in his sneakers (he’s always been rough on his footwear), so I got him some slip on Vans that he’s super excited about because it’s really easy to take them off. The kid can’t be bothered with tying laces; his previous pair were permanently double knotted and stretched out where he pulled them on and off instead of untying them. After school most days, I’ve noticed that his feet are stinky.
His piano practice has improved now that he can read the music with his new glasses! I’m so proud he moved up a level in his piano books, and his teacher is hoping he can play from the hymn book soon. My little musician is on his way!
The 5 Footer
L went to her first school dance and danced with the same boy who asked her thrice. Apparently he was very tall, and she illustrated her difficulty in dancing with him because she couldn’t quite reach. Yet she is officially taller than us all at 5 feet. She said she had a fun time even though she only knew half the songs.
During her first soccer practice of the season she had an accident, ran in her cleats on asphalt as she chased the ball into the street, and plonked the back of her head in full cartoon-slipping-on-a-banana-peel style. We got her checked out at the doctor the next morning, and thankfully it wasn’t a serious concussion but she was allowed to have a rest day. Still milking it the way she has since she was a baby. The doctor reassured me she’s fine, and gave her a note in case she needed to take it easy in PE. The doctor’s office side-noted that she would likely grow a couple more inches at least.

She scored a GOAL during her 2nd game and it was right towards the beginning while I was walking in so I missed it, but Jer got to see how she was in the perfect position at the right time and how well her skills have improved over the seasons. We are all so proud of L!
The Fun Facter

Did you know? …
W, every day
While W was sick with a croupy cough this month, he stayed home and determined that his new favorite movie is “The Croods”.
It’s been parent teacher conferences, and W’s teacher said he got 100% on his math unit test and he is still in the blue (above benchmark) for reading.
W has been full of Fun Facts this month. One day on the carpool home, it was about the new ants they think are from Mars because it doesn’t have eyes. We got to chat a little about evolution and the features a species needs to survive developing over time. Another day he was glad he wasn’t a bee because as a boy, he would be kicked out of the hive during winter to die because there’s not enough food (apparently only the girls can stay). The other day he was telling me all about the Underground Railroad as they are learning about the Civil War in school.
He and his brother were gifted books for Dr. Seuss Week, one about Ants and another about Vikings. Now he says that he is in favor of Vikings instead of Pirates, with admiration for their long boats and fierceness. And combs made of bone. For some reason that fascinates him. I told him the Chinese have combs made of bone, too, and he didn’t care one whit.

Roxy’s fluffiness and expressive eyes dictate the activities of the day. Will we have a 2+ mile walk? Very possible. In the snow? Of course. Will she get extra food in her bowl? Probably. Shall we forget all the laundry and errands of the day in favor of couch cuddle time? The answer better be yes, or there will be consequences… Sad puppy dog side eyes, incessant pawing of your leg, and the occasion lifted eyebrow and growl combo. Such dire consequences; I can’t withstand them. I’ve been taking her on all my errands where possible just because she doesn’t tolerate being left alone at the house for long. Even when I’m running about folding laundry or washing dishes she just likes to be around.
I’ve been hooked on reading a new series: Dungeon Crawler Carl.
